“…with an average of one ton of relief per person per hour, the strain on the back is definitely reduced by using the exoskeleton throughout the shift.”

Neither backache nor exhaustion after the shift. Our colleagues are thrilled!
After the tremendous response to the first blog post about the deployment of the smart Cray X exoskeletons in the company, DPD Schweiz launched a new series in which Beri and Jasmine take a closer look at the power suits from German Bionic that have been supporting the daily work of employees at the DPD depot in Wittenwil, Switzerland, since February 2022.
Their conclusion: “A great innovation!” Details in their video and story below.
Our conclusion from the test
It's not that easy to adjust the exoskeleton correctly... But with a little help and practice, it gets better and easier and can be managed more quickly from now on. The robot-like noises when walking were quite unusual and strange at first, but soon unnoticeable. The focus on work coupled with the curiosity of the exoskeleton probably played a role and pushed it into the background.
During our effective test time of around 3 hours, the exoskeleton, with its around 8 kg, slowly became heavy for the body - for us two "office plankton" anyway, as we are not used to being on our feet for so long. A quick side note that we normally enjoy our coffee break in the office after the test. 😊
If, however, you calculate these 8 kg with an average relief of one tonne per person and in one hour, the back is definitely better protected with the exoskeleton over an entire work shift. We can confirm that too. But the work didn't go by without sore muscles. At least we were able to avoid a trip to the gym and enjoy the nice weather instead.
Our personal exchange with colleagues at the Wittenwil depot also showed that you get used to working with the exoskeleton over time. Kemal, for example, feels the greatest relief with the tires. The automatic generation of the "straight bend", which could be adjusted to suit the strength required, was also very helpful for us and was clearly noticeable when lifting the packages and tires. The evaluation was also astonishing for us: 1.5 tons of weight relieved, 18,000 steps taken, 300 lifts (straight bend).
